How Do I Know If I Need New Tires?
You don’t need to know! Our experts will help you to make an informed decision. But we often tell our customers to become a little more acquainted with their tires. We recommend that you walk around your car about once a week and check to see how your tires are looking. There are certain things to look for that could be a sign that you need a tire service.
Sometimes, it’s as simple as using a penny to check for issues! Grab a penny and place it upside down between the tread of your tires, and if the top of Mr. Lincoln’s head is visible it is time for some new tires. If your tires don’t have enough tread the likelihood of an accident occurring increases exponentially.
Another thing to check is your tires’ inflation levels. Has your tire pressure light come on? Do you see that one tire has slightly less air than the others? Come see us! If your tires aren’t inflated to the right levels – these can be found in your owner’s manual – they won’t make good enough contact with the roads.
The last two things are slightly harder to see: rotation and alignment. It is imperative that you rotate your tires every so often. This is usually a service done during an oil change. Rotation allows you to wear your tires evenly so you can avoid losing tread. Improper alignment can be caused by many things: from hitting a curb to going over a pothole. Misalignment can cause your wheel to shake or pull your car in the wrong direction. Bring your car in for a tire service if you notice any of these issues.
